Welcome! JW Phelps Performance Horses is a family partnership
between Jason, Shelley, Jerald and Sharon Phelps. We live
on the rolling prairie and farmland near Ulysses, Kansas.
Jason and I (Shelley) both work outside the farm. Jason
works for BP and I teach 5th grade. We have two sons,
Chase and Trace Cole. We enjoy spending time with
our church, family, friends, and horses.
Jerald and Sharon farm wheat, corn, milo, and alfalfa hay.
Sharon works as a county health nurse. They have three children;
Melisa, Jarrod, and Jason. Melisa lives in England and Jarrod
and wife Dara live in Missouri. They are also proud grandparents
to five grandchildren, Kaija, Jordan, Bekka, Chase, Trace
Cole and Payton.
This father and son partnership began as a cow/calf operation
that raised and trained a few horses. In 1997, the program
expanded when Jason & Shelley purchased IMAPEPPYDOCTIVIO,
a grandson of Peppy San, to breed to the partnership mares.
“Ima” has made raising and selling colts easy.
He stamps his offspring with good looks, good mind and a
versatile size to make an all-around athletic horse that
is all business.
In 2004 we were looking for a replacement stallion for Ima
(he has had a hind fetlock injury since he was 3 years old).
We were very fortunate to find Playin A Lot, an own son
of Freckles Playboy. We have always believed in proven genetics
and that is what he has. Playin A Lot has been an excellent
breeder and an awesome show horse.
We couldn’t be more pleased with his colts.
It will be interesting to follow these colts. They are all
very curious and athletic. We think when his colts get out
there and perform he will stamp his genetics. Playin A
Lot will stand to the public again in 2008. With earnings of almost
$14,000 we are looking forward to the bright future with Playin
A Lot.
We are truly grateful to our friends and customers. Our
greatest satisfaction is raising horses that accomplish
great things, whether it is to teach your kids how to
ride or to win the next futurity. We feel truly blessed
from God for the opportunity to raise horses and have
the friendships we’ve made through horses. We say
Thank You and come back to visit. We always enjoy your
visits, calls, emails, and letters and hope to hear from
you soon.
Sincerely,
Jason and Shelley Phelps
